The thrilling climax of the fifth season of the Tennis Premier League saw the emergence of Bengaluru Mavericks as the champions. On December 19, they defeated the formidable Bengal Wizards to claim the prestigious title of Tennis Premier League.
In Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 5, a total of 8 teams participated. The teams are Bengaluru SG Mavericks, Bengal Wizards, Punjab Patriots, Delhi Binny Brigade, Hyderabad Strikers, Pune Jaguars, Mumbai Lion Army, and Gujarat Panthers. Among these teams, Bengaluru SG Mavericks, Bengal Wizards, Punjab Patriots, and Delhi Binny Brigade secured their spots in the semifinals after completing the league phase. In the first semifinal, Bengal Wizards faced off against Delhi Binny Brigade, while the second semifinal featured Bengaluru SG Mavericks taking on Punjab Patriots.
The semifinals unfolded with gripping matches, starting with Bengaluru SG Mavericks taking on Delhi Binny’s Brigade. Arina Rodionova's expertise shone through in a closely contested match, securing a slim victory of 11-9 against Sahaja Yamalapalli. In the Men's Singles, Bengaluru's Ramkumar Ramanathan displayed his skill against Denis Novak, claiming victory with a score of 12-8.
The Mixed Doubles brought another win for the Mavericks, with the duo of Arina Rodionova and Vishnu Vardhan overcoming their opponents, Sahaja Yamalapalli and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, with an identical score of 11-9. Despite a setback in the Men’s Doubles, where the Mavericks' pair, Ramanathan and Vardhan, faced defeat, they accumulated 41 points, securing their spot in the final. Ramanathan received accolades as the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance.
In the second semifinal, the Bengal Wizards clashed with the Punjab Patriots. Maria Timofeeva secured a 12-8 win against Conny Perrin in Women’s Singles, while Sriram Balaji triumphed 13-7 over Digvijay Pratap Singh in Men’s Singles.
The Mixed Doubles ended in a thrilling 10-all draw between Bengal Wizards' Timofeeva/Chandrasekar and Punjab Patriots' Perrin/Kadhe. In the Men’s Doubles, Sriram Balaji/Anirudh Chandrasekar of Bengal Wizards faced a 5-8 defeat against Digvijay Pratap Singh/Arjun Kadhe of Punjab Patriots.
Despite the challenges, Bengal Wizards reached 41 points, securing a spot in the final against Bengaluru SG Mavericks. Sriram Balaji's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match title, setting the stage for an exciting final.
In the final showdown against Bengal Wizards, Bengaluru Mavericks showcased their dominance. The vibrant Mixed Doubles match featuring Vishnu Vardhan and Arina Rodionova against Maria Timofeeva and Anirudh Chandrasekar ended in a commanding 14-6 victory for the Mavericks. This crucial win helped Bengaluru SG Mavericks to a 41-28 win over Bengal Wizards. With singles matches ending in a tie, Arina Rodionova's energetic performance in the Mixed Doubles earned her the title of 'Player of the Match.'
